Call for papers Building on the success of last year's Student Conference on Operational Research we are proud to announce the 2nd Student Conference on Operational Research (SCOR 2010), which will be held at the University of Nottingham, UK from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th April 2010.PhD students studying Operational Research, Management Science or related fields are invited to submit an abstract for presentation at the conference. The purpose of SCOR 2010 is to provide a friendly environment for students that are early on in their OR careers to develop and practice their presentation skills, whilst receiving constructive feedback on their work and meeting other OR students in similar positions. As such, the work presented need not be fully developed or early research directions thoroughly explored as yet. The scope of the conference includes, but is not limited to: - Geographical Information Systems
- Heuristics and Metaheuristics
- Multicriteria Decision Analysis
| - Neural Networks/Machine Learning
| Presenting at the conference in order to attend is not mandatory, however it is encouraged, especially for students who may have little experience in presenting or who just want to practice their presentations in front of a new audience before presenting elsewhere. It is also a good networking opportunity to meet students from other universities with similar research interests. The conference is held the weekend before the first NATCOR of the year, which will also be held in Nottingham. For students attending both conference and course we provide the opportunity to book an additional night's accommodation when registering for SCOR. Deadline for submission: Monday 15th March 2010A notification of acceptance will be sent out shortly afterwards. Registration procedures will be available soon and in order to encourage a wide range of students to attend, as last year, the conference fee will be minimal. The conference will provide a full social program including a conference dinner on the Saturday night. In a change to last year, after the conference presenters will also be invited to submit a short (no more than 5 pages) paper on their work to be published electronically as part of the SCOR 2010 proceedings. This is to give students a chance to experience the peer-review process and to practice their technical writing skills. Details of this will be published at a later date and is not mandatory (though again, highly recommended.) |
